The division owns three roll-up copper strips, which we no longer use due to the manpower required to lay them out and pick them back up before and after an event. These strips would be put to better use being laid out permanently in a fencing facility. As the division does not own such a facility, the officers have voted to offer these for sale, first to member clubs in the division, then to other southwest section clubs, then finally to a salvage company. The minimum bid is $150 per strip, as we estimate the division would receive at least that in scrap.
The division also owns a low-power Acer Travelmate 1200 notebook computer with a quirky power source, suitable for word processing, data storage, and email, but not recommended for gaming or other graphics- or processor-intensive use. As the division does not require such a machine for use at its tournaments, the officers have voted to offer it as-is for sale as well, first to member clubs in the division, then to other southwest section clubs, then finally to the general public.
Please contact treasurer@southtexasdivision.org with your questions or bid. Computer or strips must be paid for and picked up in San Marcos by the start of the 2012-13 fencing season, i.e. the end of July at the latest.

Divisional Meeting Changes

Due to an injury to a fellow worker at TX State University; I will be on call for the University on Saturday 1 May, 20010 (all on call schedules were moved up yesterday). This means that I may be in and out on Saturday during the tournament depending on plumbing emergencies. With this in mind, I am moving the annual SOTXDIV meeting to Sunday, 2 May, 2010. It will take place immediately after the last event ends on Sunday afternoon. I am sorry for the inconvenience but I feel that I do need to be present at the meeting.

Summer National's Qualifier

Officer Elections

Officer Elections for the South Texas Division, USFA will be held after the last event on Saturday, 1 May, 2010. Proxy votes will be accepted and must be submitted to the Divisional Secretary, Kyle Maysel, BEFORE May 1, 2010.

(Generally, makes hotel, travel arrangements for refs, staff as needed and supervises meal service,etc. at tournaments of the Division)
At this time, Kyle Maysel is the only announced candidate and for the office of Chair.
Summer Nationals Teams

Those clubs wishing to field teams at US Nationals this summer must submit, in writing (written or e-mail), the teams and the events that they wish to fence. Please have this in to Kyle Maysel, Divisional Secretary prior to April 2, 2010. IF there is a need for fence-offs, a date and venue will be announced shortly thereafter.

The following clubs/entities have expressed interest in co-hosting the upcoming 2010 South Texas Divisional Qualifiers (1-2 May, 2010) for US Summer Nationals:

The bid process will continue until the last day of March, 2010 and a decision on the venue will be made after April 2, 2010. We will publish this info on this site and send out e-mails with the needed tournament info to the individual contacts for each club that are currently listed on the USFA webpage or that are made known to the SOTXDIV officers.

This year's National Qualifiers will be held the first weekend of May. Co-host bids are now being taken and will close April 1st.

Pentathlon

There will be a U.S. Modern Pentathlon competition on Sunday 31 January, 2010. The Salle at Alamo Fencing will be hosting the one touch epee event. All events, fencing, swimming, cross country run, rapid fire pistol (air) shooting and the horse ride are open events. For for the horse ride, you must know how to ride. More details to be announced.
